Hyperweb Releases Whitepaper Detailing Full-Stack TypeScript Platform for Developing Blockchain Applications
From Hyperweb’s Interchain JavaScript Hub, smart contracts will execute across chains, powered by the Hyperweb Virtual Machine (HVM)
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 5, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Hyperweb, an end-to-end TypeScript ecosystem for building decentralized applications, today announced the release of its whitepaper outlining a new blockchain development platform that enables JavaScript developers to create onchain applications using familiar tools. It details the Hyperweb Virtual Machine, which enables developers to execute TypeScript, a superset of JavaScript.
The Hyperweb Virtual Machine (HVM) brings JavaScript onchain. Currently, while there are only about 24,000 programmers who specialize in blockchain development, approximately 20 million developers use JavaScript to build websites and applications. Technical barriers have limited innovation in decentralized applications, particularly the necessity of learning arcane web3-only programming languages. Hyperweb addresses this gap by allowing developers to use TypeScript to build blockchain applications.
The HVM further ushers in a new era of cross-chain smart contracts. Just as JavaScript can run on virtually any website in web2, with Hyperweb it can run across blockchains. This is an entirely new paradigm in decentralized computing whereby developers can write smart contracts in a single language designed to execute across blockchain ecosystems, including Ethereum, Solana, and Cosmos. Hyperweb will serve as the Interchain JavaScript Hub and will enable developers to control actions on other chains, providing a new developer experience for simple cross-chain development.
The Hyperweb platform builds on a successful collaboration between Confio and Hyperweb (formerly Cosmology), two of the primary teams behind the interchain ecosystem. Confio, led by Managing Director Simon Warta, developed and maintains CosmWasm, a smart contract platform that currently powers over 100 blockchain networks. Hyperweb’s development tools and infrastructure support over 200 blockchain networks. Both teams’ products are foundational for multi-billion-dollar market cap giants like dYdX, Celestia, and Osmosis, which process billions of dollars of transactions monthly. This comprehensive coverage, from client-side tools to smart contracts, has established both companies as foundational builders in the blockchain space.
Dan Lynch, founder of Hyperweb, explains:
“Our years-long work developing the tooling for the interchain has enabled thousands of developers to create applications processing billions of dollars of value. The Hyperweb whitepaper outlines how we’re applying these lessons to create a more accessible blockchain developer experience.”
Simon Warta, Managing Director of Confio and Maintainer of CosmWasm, adds:
“Our experience building CosmWasm and seeing its adoption across major blockchain networks has shown us the challenges of building a robust VM as well as a flourishing ecosystem. The Hyperweb Virtual Machine (HVM) builds on these insights to create a streamlined experience for JavaScript developers.”
The whitepaper’s authors include:
- Dan Lynch, founder of Hyperweb, founder of Brandcast (acquired by TIME)
- Simon Warta, Managing Director of Confio and Maintainer of CosmWasm, the de facto smart contracting framework for the interchain.
- Jeet Raut, former Ecosystem lead at Agoric and co-founder of Behold.ai
- Anmol Yadav, inventor of Starship, former Persistence engineer, IIT alum
- Jovonni Pharr, former security at Certik, director of blockchain at Coreum, protocol engineering at 3Box Labs, R&D at State Farm, and developer relations engineering at Agoric
The platform integrates with other blockchain systems through the Cosmos SDK, enabling general message passing between different blockchain networks. This builds on the extensive infrastructure previously developed by the Confio and Hyperweb teams, which currently supports hundreds of blockchain networks in the interchain ecosystem.
About Hyperweb
Hyperweb, formerly Cosmology, is the end-to-end TypeScript blockchain ecosystem that provides best-in-class UI and client-side tooling through its smart contract development environment. By enabling smart contract creation in the most popular development language on the planet, Hyperweb significantly lowers the barrier to entry for the 20 million+ JavaScript developers worldwide.
Hyperweb’s Interchain JavaScript Stack includes essential components like InterchainJS, Interchain Kit, Telescope, and Starship, all designed to streamline blockchain development across hundreds of networks. These tools have democratized access to blockchain technology, inspiring developers to craft innovative, user-centric solutions instead of wrestling with technical complexities.
Hyperweb redefines software creation with the “printing press” for code, democratizing development and elevating developers to work on a higher conceptual plane. Through this democratized approach, our developer tools for Web2, Web3, and AI have amassed over 40 million downloads. Our Web3 suite supports 200+ blockchains, while LaunchQL, our database toolkit, powers 2M+ databases for industry leaders like Supabase and Neon DB. Founder Dan Lynch brings two decades of expertise in launching successful no-code ventures, raising over $120M and serving Fortune 100 brands. His no-code website builder, Brandcast, was acquired by TIME.
