Bitcoin Frontier Fund Welcomes Dr. Chiente Hsu as General Partner Amid Strong Bitcoin DeFi Market Growth

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Bitcoin Frontier Fund (BFF), a leading venture capital firm supporting early stage Bitcoin startups, is pleased to announce that Dr. Chiente Hsu has joined the firm as General Partner. With decades of expertise across traditional finance, quantitative research, DeFi and digital assets, Dr. Hsu is set to enhance BFF’s leadership as it expands investments in innovative Bitcoin-driven projects.

Dr. Hsu’s appointment comes during a period of heightened market interest in Bitcoin (up 30% in November). As the Co-Founder of ALEX, Dr. Hsu built the Number 1 decentralized exchange (DEX) across all Bitcoin layers in daily volume, community size, and total value locked (TVL). ALEX has evolved into a comprehensive Bitcoin DeFi ecosystem, enabling cross-chain swaps via XLINK, a Bitcoin liquidity aggregator, and offering liquid staking through LISA, unlocking new yield opportunities for Bitcoin holders. With $170 million in TVL and close to $2.4 billion in total transaction volume, the ALEX ecosystem forms the largest financial layer on Bitcoin, solidifying its position as a cornerstone of Bitcoin DeFi.

Her background also includes Managing Director roles at Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse, where she built and directed multi-billion-dollar quantitative investment businesses for institutional investors. She spearheaded the growth of Quantitative Investment Strategy (QIS) platforms, leading cross-asset research, developing innovative data-driven investment products, and advising global institutional clients on portfolio optimization. Her leadership established both firms as pioneers in quantitative finance, setting benchmarks in risk management and advanced investment strategies.

“There’s a massive opportunity in Bitcoin DeFi right now, and Hsu is truly a pioneer in building on the Stacks network. She not only understands the challenges of being a founder firsthand but also provides invaluable advice to other founders and identifies critical gaps in the market,” said Trevor Owens, Managing Partner. “Hsu was one of the first founders we backed in our portfolio, and we were proud to be the first check into ALEX, one of our most successful companies. It’s exciting to be working alongside a founder who has been such an integral part of the community from day one.”

As General Partner, Dr. Hsu will oversee investment strategy and support BFF portfolio companies, emphasizing infrastructure and decentralized finance solutions that align with Bitcoin’s principles of decentralization and transparency. Her addition reflects BFF’s commitment to building a robust and diverse portfolio at a pivotal time for Bitcoin adoption.
